Endless Trial Guide — Day-2 Update: Defensive Stats Matter Too

Day-2 update to the Endless Trial guide: defensive stats feed your damage, waves run long so stacking buffs compound, and at low/mid gens Lin, Mia/Reina and Gatot beat your current-gen line-up.

공략노트·Ton (TontonYouTube) day-1 video (2026-08-17) and day-2 update (2026-08-20), cross-checked against the official sneak peek (whiteoutsurvival.wiki) · provisional while the combat engine stays undocumented

Bottom line — Three runs a day clears the daily rewards. Ratio, troop counts, buff items and skill timing are all locked, so your only levers are three expedition heroes plus their gear and widget. The big day-2 finding: defensive stats count toward your damage too — which is why, at lower and mid generations, older specialists like Lin (G4) · Mia/Reina · Gatot (G8) beat your current-gen line-up. The real prize is the one-time milestone rewards.

🆕 What changed in the day-2 update (2026-08-20)

The day-1 conclusion — "always run your current generation" — is now partly corrected.

  • Defensive stats affect your damage. This is not a bear-trap punching bag. Wulfgar hits back, which is why the purely defensive Gatot (G8) ranks near the top.
  • Wave (trial level) structure. Reports show entries like "Trial Lv. 59" — a single attack is a long, multi-wave fight, and stacking buffs compound.
  • Lower/mid generations should run older heroes. Especially Lin (G4 marksman): at Gen 4–7 she clearly beats Gwen and Wayne, and runs neck-and-neck with Bradley.
  • Lancer slot: Mia (G3) / Reina (G4) hold up through G8 — better than Nora, Renee or Sonya.
  • Only the Expedition half of the widget applies. The rally/garrison half does nothing here.
  • Use a sample of 5–6 runs. Ton measured roughly 0.8B of swing (≈5%) on identical line-ups.
  • Marksman-first placement (unconfirmed). No rules basis, but Ton's stalled record moved up after trying it. Nothing to lose by testing.
  • Search one or two generations back. Ton's wording is "minus one or two gens" — a notch wider than day-1's "one generation back".
  • Bahiti (epic marksman) is a real early option — named alongside Flint, Alonzo/Greg and Mia for the Gen 2–3 stretch.

Correction: day-1's "don't look more than one generation back" only holds for Gen 10+ accounts.

⚙️ The combat engine — what day 2 revealed ★the core of this guide★

① Both offensive and defensive stats are in play

This resembles neither the bear trap nor Rosarion (the Valentine event) — the two modes people expected it to match behave nothing like it. Wulfgar fights back. Your troops take damage, and past some threshold the run appears to stop.

🛡️ The evidence: Gatot (G8 infantry) performs

Gatot has no damage-increasing skill at all — infantry attack up, infantry defense up, a shield worth 30% of attack, and an enemy attack reduction. He is purely defensive.

Against a punching bag he should do nothing, yet he scores very well. Don't pick heroes by damage skills alone.

② Wave structure means very long fights

Records show a wave counter such as "Trial Lv. 59". One attack pushes through many consecutive waves, and buffs appear not to reset between them.

That is the leading explanation for Lin (G4 marksman): she stacks +5% attack every three turns. A skill that means nothing in a short fight snowballs here.

The skill profiles this mode rewards are ⓐ stacking per-turn buffs and ⓑ survivability/defense. Burst damage is not automatically better.

Ton's theory on what ends a run — "either the fights are very long, or buffs simply don't reset between waves." Either way, the run appears to stop once your infantry is finally worn down, which is the leading explanation for why defensive stats matter. An observation, not a confirmed rule.

③ What you can and cannot change

❌ Locked

  • Troop ratio — fixed 1:1:1 (33/33/33). No 50/20/30 or 60/40
  • Troop count — auto-filled to the max of your highest available tier
  • Chief/city buffs — capital title 10%/20% attack buffs and the like do not apply
  • Buff itemscannot be used
  • Skill timing — president skill, Dragon Tyrant turret and pet skills all fire automatically

✅ Yours to tune

  • Three expedition heroes — effectively the only big variable
  • Hero gear — best gear on all three. Health rolls count too, since defense is calculated
  • Widget level, ascension, shards — everything bound to the hero
  • Placement order (unconfirmed) — the marksman-first idea

Preparation is simply "swap heroes, run it five or six times".

🧩 The widget — which half counts a common source of confusion

Widget halfApplies toEndless Trial
ExpeditionEvery solo march — Alliance Championship, Canyon Clash, Labyrinth, Endless Trial, attacking or defending a city with no garrison reinforcement, open-field PvP✅ applies
Rally / GarrisonOnly in garrisons flagged "defender", and in offensive rallies❌ no effect

Ton's maxed expedition widget sits around +320%, and it carries across every expedition mode. Widget values scale with widget level and hero generation, so they feed straight into hero choice — which is how "one or two generations older but with a higher widget" heroes sometimes overtake the current gen. Ton's own advice is to test one or two gens back.

Marksman — Lin (G4) is the star of this mode

GenerationPickNotes
G2–G3Alonzo (G2) or Greg (G3)no data no feedback on which is better
Early, any genBahiti (epic marksman)The practical filler for the Gen 2–3 stretch, named alongside Flint and Mia
G4–G7⭐ Lin (G4)Clearly ahead of Gwen (G5) and Wayne (G6). Neck-and-neck with Bradley (G7) — a higher widget can put Lin ahead
G8Hendrik (G8)Reported as a very slight edge over Bradley — test it yourself
G9–G10Xura (G9) / Blanchett (G10)Current-gen default
G11–G12Rufus (G11) ↔ Ligeia (G12)Ton's personal best used Rufus. Ligeia is steadier, Rufus spikes higher

💡 Why Lin works (theory) — +5% attack stacking every three turns compounds across the long wave chain.

Infantry — defense wins, and Gatot (G8) is the endpoint

GenerationPickNotes
G2Flint (G2)Early default
G3–G4Logan (G3)
G5–G6Hector (G5)
G7Edith (G7)
G8–G9+⭐ Gatot (G8)Zero damage skills, still top-tier. F2P players end up here and stay a long time
G9+Magnus (G9) onward, current genGeneration stats start to win out
G11+Eleonora (G11)Named by Ton as the likely pick for the late-game infantry slot

Lancer — Mia (G3) / Reina (G4) hold through G8

HeroVerdict
Mia (G3)baseline the low-gen standard
Reina (G4)slight edge but don't build her just for this mode
Nora (G5)worse than Mia/Reina
Renee (G6)worse
Gordon (G7)no data few players own him
Sonya (G8)worse than Reina some players reportedly run Mia and Reina together (two lancers) rather than slot Sonya in
Fred (G9)switch point lucky-wheel hero, so most players have him — current gen from here
Freya (G10) · Lloyd (G11) · Karol (G12)Current-gen default. Karol beats out Lloyd (widget 10) even at widget 2 with incomplete shards

💡 F2P tip — Rufus comes from the lucky wheel, so anyone can get him, and he stays relevant in the bear trap through G15. He performs here too, which makes him well worth investing in.

📊 How to test 5–6 runs is the minimum sample

📊5–6 runs per line-up

Ton measured 15.0B ↔ 14.3B on the same set-up — about 0.8B (≈5%) of swing. One or two runs will almost certainly mislead you.

🧾Read the troop breakdown

The battle report splits damage by troop type. Comparing which type carried across runs speeds up your judgement.

🎒Gear everyone up

Best gear on all three heroes. Don't skip health rolls — defense genuinely counts here.

🔁Retry after upgrades

Only spend all 30 attempts right after a big widget, ascension or gear upgrade. Otherwise three runs.

🎲 The placement experiment — unconfirmed, weak evidence

The community claim: putting your marksman in slot one raises your damage.

Nothing in the game's rules supports it and Ton said outright he doesn't really believe it — but when he tried it, a record that had been stuck at 14B moved up. Normally your strongest hero (Herbor in his case, G12 infantry — the transcript is unclear on the name) ends up in slot one, so the suggestion is to deliberately push the marksman forward.

There's no downside to testing it, but don't treat it as an established rule.

⭐ One-time milestones — paid once per bracket cleared

  • Brackets start at 200K → 500K → 1M → … and run up into the billions
  • Ton reached 15B and still had brackets above him (the top looks like the 20B range — provisional)
  • Brackets open naturally as your account grows → there's no need to rush them all

💰 Ton's estimate — north of $100 if you priced it as packs. Note this is a late-account payout; totals shrink considerably at lower generations.

✅ Checklist

1Keep one march slot free

If it clashes with the bear trap, gathering or a rally you simply can't send. It is not a dedicated march.

2Three runs, every day

30 seconds. Daily rewards end at three.

3Best gear on all three

Including health rolls.

4Compare expedition widget values only

The rally/garrison numbers are meaningless here.

5Low/mid gen: test the old guard

Run Lin · Mia/Reina · Gatot (or Hector) at least once.

⚠️Put the gear back

If you moved gear onto a test hero, move it back. Arena, Labyrinth, rallies and the Warhymn League will suffer otherwise.
