Whiteout Survival Arena Tier List by Generation (Gen 1–6)

Arena tiers move generation by generation, not as a fixed ranking. F2P needs just five heroes: Molly, Alonso, Greg, Gwen, then Renee and Wayne. Slot targeting order, positioning rules, G1-G6 lineups.

🏟️

Arena tiers are not a fixed ranking — they are a table that moves generation by generation. The same hero is S in Gen 2 and D in Gen 4. F2P players only need to follow five heroes: Molly → Alonso (G2) → Greg (G3) → Gwen (G5) → Renee & Wayne (G6). Add the tank of the moment (Sergey → Flint → Mia → Hector) and you are done. Do not over-invest in Gen 1–4 — real investment starts at Gen 5.

1. Tier definitions S vs A is about lifespan, not power

TierMeaningExamples
STop tier across multiple generationsJeronimo · Alonso · Greg · Gwen
ATop tier for one generation — replaced next genReina (→Norah) · Lynn · Hector · Norah (→Renee)
BUsable in arena — a fillerSergey · Jessie · Patrick · Mia
COnly if you truly have nothing elseEpics past their generation
DDo not useOutdated legendaries and rares
Ton's own distinction: "Reina is the best for one generation and gets pushed out once Norah arrives. Alonso is the best for several generations."

2. Arena fundamentals 5 slots = 2 front + 3 back

Front row (tanks)

hit 2nd
Left
Put your second damage dealer (infantry) here
hit 1st
Right
The slot that dies first — a hero you can afford to lose

Back row (damage & support)

3rd
Back ①
Support / AOE damage
4th
Back ②
Secondary damage
5th
Back ③
Safest slot — your top damage dealer
1Top damage dealer

Goes in the deepest back slot, hit last.

2Second damage dealer

Goes in the front-left infantry slot.

3The hero you can lose

Front-right. In Gen 5–6, dying is Flint's job.

⚠️ This order is an approximation for early generations

Ton explains the 1–5 order with a Gen 2 lineup (Sergey → Flint → Molly → Bahiti → Alonso), then adds that it becomes less accurate as generations advance and enemy positioning gets more complex. The exact slot geometry only appears on screen in the video, so verify in game.

💡 When in doubt, test positions in Exploration — advice Ton repeats throughout the video.

⚠️ The Jasser / Seo-yoon trap

Their arena performance is fine. The problem is shards. The game gives you so few that you can never raise them to a usable level. Ton himself said he only maxed them in the middle of Gen 3. Plan your early game as if they do not exist.

4. Lineups by generation F2P

Gen 1 — use whatever you have

① Standard — 2 Inf · 1 Lan · 2 Mar

  • Front: Sergey + secondary tank
  • Back: Molly · Gina · Bahiti
  • Ton: "in Gen 1 this simply works better"

② Lancer core — Gen 1 only

  • Molly moves forward and tanks
  • Patrick · Jessie + Gina/Bahiti
  • Runs up to three lancers. Works in Gen 1 and nowhere else

💎 The biggest Gen 1 trick — the Gina rush

During Gina's Revenge, kill beasts and hoard the summon items instead of spending them. Summon only ten during the event, then summon the 50–70 you saved the moment the event ends. While everyone else is stuck on a 4-star purple hero, you have a maxed 5-star Gina and you are far ahead.

P2W order: Jeronimo > Natalia > Molly > Zinman. Zinman is not worth it in arena unless you go all the way to 5 stars with a maxed widget.

Gen 2 — Alonso is the whole generation

Front

Flint
F2P: left (lives longer, heals more) / some spenders: right
Sergey
Primary tank

Back

Molly
AOE damage
Gina / Bahiti
Gina if the rush worked
Alonso
4 stars + widget Lv.2 is enough
  • The one thing a F2P player should do in Gen 2 is Alonso.
  • Philly is usable for one generation as a healer, but in arena Molly does a far better job than Zinman.
  • This is the generation where Zinman really starts to fall off.
  • Whales: some report good results putting Jeronimo in the back line as a damage dealer (Ton has not tested this himself).

Gen 3 — Greg joins, Molly moves back

Front

Mia
Tank — no AOE, so she goes forward
Flint
Healing tank

Back

Molly
Moved back for her AOE damage
Greg
Mandatory if you missed Alonso
Alonso
Top damage slot

⚠️ Swap Molly and Mia and the lineup gets noticeably worse

Molly does AOE, Mia does not. So Mia goes in front (tank) and Molly goes in the back (damage). This is one of the few positioning rules Ton states outright: "if you do it the other way it tends to be a lot less effective."

Sergey, Jessie, Patrick, Natalia and Philly all drop to "only if you have nothing else" this generation. Logan (P2W) is good for one arena generation, maybe two — Ton explicitly says he does not know whether Amos is better.

Gen 4 — the three-marksman lineup begins

Front

Mia
Tank
Flint
Healing tank

Back — three marksmen

Lynn
Buffs and heals — deals no damage herself. Right by default; move left if she dies too fast
Alonso
Main damage + gear priority
Greg
4 stars + widget Lv.2 baseline → Lv.4 once badges open up

✅ The two lineup shapes settled here

  • ① 2 Inf · 2 Mar · 1 Lan
  • ② 3 Mar · 1 Lan · 1 Inf (single infantry tanking in front)
  • You keep using these two from now on

🚫 What stops working

  • Two-lancer lineups — dead from Gen 4
  • Molly drops out (only if nothing else)
  • Reina is strong but gets replaced by Norah

🔧 Gear rule

Do not build gear for all three marksmen. Lynn is a buffer, not a damage dealer. Put the gear on Alonso and Greg so they survive longer.

Gen 5 — switch to Gwen, and get Norah for the joiner slot

Front

Hector
Main tank
Flint
"Dying is his role" — right slot

Back

Norah
The joiner value is the real reason
Gwen
Swap her in, middle slot
Lynn or Alonso/Greg
Whichever works better
  • Swap to Gwen, no exceptions. Ton catches himself mid-video — "the mistake here is that I forgot to swap for Gwen" — because the gap is that large.
  • Norah matters more as a joiner than in arena. Ton is consistent that F2P and low spenders must secure her.
  • The F2P lineup lacks AOE damage this generation. If it shows, bring Mia back as a tank (Hector + Mia in front) and fill the back with three marksmen.
  • Alonso and Greg begin to slide but are still fine. Reina and Amos drop.
  • It is normal for the lineup to still feel clunky — it gets fixed in Gen 6–7.

Gen 6 — Renee replaces Norah

Lineup A — you built both Gwen and Wayne

  • Front: Renee + Hector/Flint
  • Back: Gwen · Wayne · Lynn (three marksmen complete)

Lineup B — only one of them

  • Front: Flint + Hector (two infantry)
  • Back: Renee · Gwen (or Wayne) · Lynn
  • Do not force Alonso or Greg in — Renee + Gwen damage with Lynn buffing is enough
  • Wu Ming is a one-generation arena hero — F2P should skip him (a 4-star for the joiner slot is still worth considering).
  • Wayne is very good in arena. With Gwen, that completes the three-marksman back line.
  • Renee replaces Norah. Norah is no longer outstanding in arena from here.
  • Lynn drops but stays in the lineup — she is especially strong as a counter to healing in Exploration.

5. Investment and gear

TopicGuidance
When to investDo not over-invest in Gen 1–4. Start investing at Gen 5. Transferring early to sit a few months ahead of your generation smooths out the chaotic early game
Foundation heroesGwen · Hector · Renee → the account becomes solid once Edith and Bradley arrive in Gen 7
Hero gearEverything into your first march. For the second and third, stop at essence stone Lv.1–2 and XP level 30–50. Beyond that is wasted
Who to buildPrefer heroes that also work in Bear Trap, solo marches and the Foundry over arena-only heroes such as Reina — that is the filter Ton actually used to build this list

6. Open questions flagged as uncertain by Ton himself

  • Logan vs Amos in Gen 3–4 — Ton does not know which spenders actually run in arena
  • Where Jeronimo falls off in Gen 6 — "I'm not exactly sure, to be honest"
  • The whale side in general — deferred to a separate video. His advice: just look at what top players are running
  • A zero-lancer Gen 4 lineup — "I actually wondered if I did not play without lancers", he cannot remember
  • Ton announced he will re-record a v2 after collecting Discord feedback
